Physician-modified endografts
Host & trainer: Vladimir Makaloski, Csaba Csobay-Novák
Date: May 29, 2025
Venue: Heart and Vascular Center, Semmelweis University, Városmajor str 68, 1122 Budapest
This will be a practical workshop on physician-modified devices in the treatment of complex aortic aneurysms.
Participants will be able to become familiar with the PMD workflow1 of the Semmelweis Aortic Center:
- plan a fenestrated EVAR with a physician-modified device for a juxtarenal aortic aneurysm
- learn how to translate the planned fenestrations onto a specific device utilizing the punch card technique2
- learn how to create a CMD-like3 reinforcement with a Hungaroring4
- learn how to create a non-perforating diameter reduction5
- learn how to reload the device into the original delivery system
- deploy the device under fluoroscopy in a 3D printed model as part of a dry run in a hybrid OR.
Indicate your interest by completing the pre-registration form.

Open aortic cadaver workshop
Host & trainer: Péter Sótonyi, Alan Lumsden, Zoltán Oláh
Date: May 29, 2025
Venue:
This hands-on workshop provides a unique opportunity to refine open aortic surgical skills in a realistic cadaveric setting. Participants will practice essential techniques, including aortic exposure, clamping, and graft implantation, under the guidance of experienced vascular surgeons. The session will cover key procedures such as open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair and aortic bypass. Emphasis will be placed on surgical decision-making, anatomical considerations, and complication management. This immersive experience is designed for surgeons aiming to enhance their proficiency in open aortic surgery and gain confidence in handling complex aortic pathologies.
Mastering vascular ultrasound
Host & trainer: Zsolt Garami, Panajotu Alexisz, T.D. Nguyen
Date: May 29, 2025, 13:00-17:00
Venue: Basic Medical Science Center of Semmelweis University | Tűzoltó u. 37-43, 1094 Budapest
During this practice-oriented workshop, you will learn about the basic principles and applications of vascular ultrasound in clinical practice. You will also gain hands-on experience with ultrasound equipment, proper examination techniques, and the skills to interpret ultrasound images and parameters.
Ultrahigh Frequency Ultrasound in Reconstructive Lymphatic Surgery
Host & trainer: Balázs Mohos, Zsombor Ocskay
Date: May 29, 2025, 15:00-16:30
Venue: Heart and Vascular Center, Semmelweis University, Városmajor str 68, 1122 Budapest
As ultra-high-frequency ultrasound provides detailed imaging of lymphatic structures and functions — focusing on the mechanical and structural aspects — it is a vital tool in preoperative evaluation. It allows clinicians to map lymphatic pathways, assess the size and structure of lymph nodes, and identify areas of interstitial fluid accumulation or fat deposition. The wall thickness of the lymphatic vessels and the presence of lymphatic valves can be observed. The peristaltic movement of lymphatic collectors can be investigated. These insights are instrumental in tailoring surgical approaches, optimizing outcomes, and minimizing risks during interventions. By providing a precise understanding of the lymphatic system’s condition, ultrasound supports the development of individualized surgical strategies, ensuring effective management of lymphedema. The workshop will include live demonstrations on patients.
Rotarex – atherectomy
Host & trainer: Artúr Hüttl, Arnold Tóth
Date: May 29, 2025, 15:00-16:30
Venue: Basic Medical Science Center of Semmelweis University | Tűzoltó u. 37-43, 1094 Budapest
This workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to the Rotarex atherectomy device, focusing on its use for the removal of peripheral arterial occlusions. Participants will learn about the device’s mechanism, indications, and clinical benefits. Through hands-on training and simulated cases, attendees will develop essential skills for effective device operation, technique optimization, and complication management. This session is ideal for clinicians aiming to expand their expertise in endovascular interventions and improve patient outcomes in peripheral artery disease.
Penumbra – aspiration thrombectomy
